The short version: as little data as possible, no third-party trackers, nothing sold — and your messages are end-to-end encrypted, so we can't read them.
52 Blue ("52 Blue", "we", "us") is a dating app built around two promises: as little data as possible, and messages only you and the person you're talking to can read. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written for the Egyptian Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 151 of 2020) and general international data-protection expectations.
Who this applies to
52 Blue is only for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; an entered date of birth under 18 is rejected and not stored.
What we collect
- Sign-in identifier. You sign in with Apple or Google. We receive a stable, pseudonymous identifier for your account. We do not ask for a phone number, a selfie, or an identity document.
- Profile you provide. A display name (not necessarily your real name), your date of birth (used only to derive your age and enforce the 18+ rule — your exact birth date is not shown to anyone), your gender, who you want to meet, and an age range.
- Optional "declared" details. You may optionally add things like religion or other personal attributes, used only to avoid obvious mismatches in matching. They are never shown to other users, and we never infer them from anything you didn't explicitly enter. You can skip them and change them anytime.
- Approximate location. With your permission, your device location, used to find people near you. Your location is used by the app only — it is never shared with other users and never placed in a link or URL.
- Personality answers. Your answers to the in-app questions, used to build a private compatibility picture that improves who you're matched with.
- Activity needed to run the service. Who you've been matched with, skipped, or blocked (so you aren't shown the same person again), and a report you file.
- Messages — encrypted. Your conversations are end-to-end encrypted on your device using the Signal Protocol. Our servers store only unreadable ciphertext that we cannot decrypt, and they are deleted shortly after a conversation ends. We cannot read your messages, and neither can anyone else but the two of you.
- Photos and voice notes — encrypted, view-once. If you choose to send one and the other person has allowed it, it is encrypted on your device before upload. Our servers hold only an unreadable encrypted file plus its size and type, delete it the moment it is delivered (or after 24 hours if it never is), and it can be seen or heard once on the recipient's device.
- Optional bio and "shared traits". A short bio you may write (shown to the person you're talking to), and — only if you switch it on — a summary of your personality traits shown to them. Both are off by default and editable anytime.
- Device push token. If you allow notifications, a token so we can send you a generic alert (e.g. "Someone's here to talk" or "You have a new message") — never the content or the sender.
- Issue reports. If you use "Report an issue", we keep the text you write plus your app version and platform — never your messages. Reports are deleted with your account.
- Aggregate product measurement. We count events like "a conversation started" or "a find took N milliseconds" on our own servers, with no third-party analytics. These counts are shown only as totals, never per person, and never include message or media content.
- Technical logs. Basic server logs needed to operate and secure the service; we avoid logging personal content.
What we do NOT collect or do
No phone number, no selfie or ID verification, no reading of your messages or media, no third-party analytics or advertising trackers, and no selling of your data. Your location is never revealed to other users.
Why we use it
To create your account, find compatible people near you, run the 24-hour conversations, deliver notifications you opted into, keep the service safe (blocking, reporting, preventing a removed account from returning), and meet our legal obligations.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data only with service providers who help us run the app, under contract: Railway (hosting and database), Google Firebase (to deliver push notifications — carrying no message content), and Apple/Google (for sign-in). We may disclose data if required by law.
How long we keep it
Encrypted messages are purged shortly after a conversation ends or expires; encrypted photos and voice notes are deleted on delivery or within 24 hours. Your account data is kept until you delete your account. Safety records of a report may be retained after deletion, in minimized form, to protect other users (see Delete your data).
How we protect it
End-to-end encryption for messages, photos and voice notes, encryption in transit (HTTPS), encrypted storage of keys on your device, and access controls on our systems.
Your rights and choices
You can view and edit your profile in the app, adjust or revoke location and notification permissions on your device, and delete your account and data at any time (Settings → You → Delete account). Subject to applicable law, you may also request access to or correction of your data by contacting us. To exercise any right, email contact@52blue.app.
International use
52 Blue is operated from Cairo, Egypt and intended for use in Egypt. Where data is processed by providers in other countries, we use appropriate safeguards.
Changes
We'll update this policy as the app evolves and post the new effective date here. Material changes will be surfaced in-app.
